Alabama, Georgia to face off in national championship game

Championship is Jan. 8 in Atlanta

NEW ORLEANS – Alabama beat Clemson 24-6 in the Sugar Bowl and will face Georgia in next week’s national college football championship game.

Earlier Monday, Georgia topped Oklahoma 54-48 in the first ever overtime Rose Bowl to reach the Jan. 8 championship game. Sony Michel ran for the game-winning, 27-yard touchdown in double overtime in what was the highest-scoring Rose Bowl ever.

Later Monday, Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts went 16 for 24 for 120 yards and two touchdowns en route to the 24-6 win.

The 2018 National Championship kicks off on Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. EST. The location, Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, gives the Georgia Bulldogs a virtual home game since the University of Georgia is a mere 70 miles away in Athens, although Alabama has a sizable fanbase in Georgia as well.
