LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lord Botetourt falls to Hopewell 35-7 in the Class 3 State Final. The Blue Devils highly touted Division I recruit, TreVeyon Henderson scored four touchdowns in leading his team to victory. Henderson rushed for a pair of first half scores from 61 and 19 yards out. The second was set up by a Lord Botetourt interception, one of three Cavalier first half turnovers. Henderson would score on a 23-yard touchdown catch and a 53 yard run int he second half to help Hopewell complete a perfect 15-0 season. Henderson finished with 224 yards rushing in the win. Lord Botetourt’s lone score came on a 52 yard interception return by Kyle Arnholt. This is the 2nd state title for Hopewell in 3 years, 6th overall.
It is Lord Botetourt’s second state title appearance, the last coming in 2015. The Cavaliers end the season with 14 wins, setting a school record. This year’s senior class also is believed to have set a school record for victories in a career, with 42 over a four year span. During that time, the team won a pair of Region 3D titles, and finished as the state runner-up this year.
“I told him reel it back a decade, and this is no knock on anybody that was at Lord Botetourt - these kids of accomplished so many things they’ve got so many things to be proud of. They’ve worked their rear- ends off, and they put themselves on a different level in the state when we’re talking about the conversation and the type of teams that are out there in our division and just football in Virginia high school in Virginia high school football in general. I think these guys have put themselves at that top level of play.” Cavaliers coach Jamie Harless said.
