Ferrum falls short to Huntingdon on Homecoming

Hawks beat Panthers 31-28 Saturday

FERRUM, Va – Chip Taylor's nine-yard touchdown run with 10:48 left in the game capped an eight-play, 86-yard drive, put Huntingdon on top 31-21 and proved to be the game-winning score in the USA South game.

Ferrum scored with 1:11 left in regulation to trim the lead to 31-28. The Panthers then looked to have successfully converted the ensuing onside kick attempt, but the play was called for a Ferrum player illegally touching the ball before it carried 10 yards. Brian Mann rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries, including an 83-yards scamper down the left sideline that set up Ferrum's first touchdown less than five minutes into the game.

Zack Clifford was 15-24 passing for 285 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Ferrum (2-2, 0-2 USA South). Chip Taylor was 12-21 for 201 yards and three touchdowns, and Josh Field made the game's only field goal attempt from 22 yards out at 12:17 of the second quarter for the Hawks (3-1, 2-0 USA South). Jaquice Sydnor made 12 tackles for Ferrum, including seven solo stops, while Karter Smith made 12 tackled for Huntingdon.
