Cam Phillips to miss Camping World Bowl

Hokies all-time leader in receptions and yards undergoes surgery

BLACKSBURG, Va – Virginia Tech has been riddled with injuries as the season draws to a close, and Tuesday, head coach Justin Fuente announced another crushing blow to the Hokies offense.

Senior wide receiver Cam Phillips will miss the upcoming Camping World Bowl after undergoing a successful sports hernia surgery in Philadelphia.

"While we're disappointed that Cam won't be able to compete in the bowl game, hopefully he enjoys a speedy recovery as he prepares for the next step of his football journey," Fuente said. "We appreciate Cam's many contributions and accomplishments during his career at Virginia Tech and wish him the very best."

Phillips is the Hokies' all-time leader, with 236 receptions and 3,027 yards and 17 touchdowns during his time in Blacksburg.

Phillips recently accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Florida, in January; however, it's unclear if he'll participate fully.
