Virginia Tech linebacker Beckett faces marijuana charges, suspended indefinitely

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech linebacker Tavante Beckett was arrested Monday and charged with conspiracy to distribute marijuana, a class 5 felony, and possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor.

No. 14 was suspended indefinitely from the team, per Virginia Tech Athletic Department bylaws, which dictate that the suspension is automatic from all team-related activities when charged with a felony.

Beckett is scheduled for a hearing on Sept. 22 in Montgomery County General District Court.

The 5-10, 221-pound sophomore from Indian River High School in Chesapeake was the Hokies' second-team middle linebacker before his suspension.
