BLACKSBURG – Saturday marks the annual Maroon Effect game for Virginia Tech as the Hokies host 2nd-ranked Clemson at Lane Stadium. ESPN College GameDay will kickoff the day’s activities beginning at 9 a.m. on Alumni Mall. Q. Are tickets still available?
No, this game is SOLD OUT.

 

Q. What time is the game and what time do stadium games open?
Saturday’s game time is set for 8 p.m. ET at Lane Stadium. Stadium gates open at 6 p.m. The Ticket Office will open at 4 p.m. and Public Will Call opens at Gate 4 starting at that time.

 

Q: Any special events for Saturday’s game?

The biggest event of the day is ESPN College GameDay will be on campus! Fans can start lining up as early as 4 a.m. and the pit area will open at 5 a.m. SportsCenter will start at 7 a.m. before GameDay goes live at 9 a.m. So grab your signs and join Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, David Pollack and Maria Taylor on Alumni Mall. In addition, the Hokies will also host a women’s soccer game on Friday night against Boston College. There will be a sign making station so fans can get their signs ready for GameDay.

 

Be sure to arrive early for the game because there will be skydivers and fireworks prior to kickoff. Saturday is also the annual Maroon Effect game and Virginia Tech will recognize the football student-athletes who have had their numbers retired. There will be a Card Stunt sponsored by Coca-Cola and Kroger, so be sure to stay in your seat at the end of the 1st quarter.

 

Q: What is the halftime entertainment?

Halftime will be performed by the Marching Virginians and will be followed by an on-the-field recognition of the football student-athletes who have had their numbers retired.

 

Q: What should I wear?

Stay away from orange for Saturday’s game and show your Hokie pride by wearing MAROON. You can purchase the 2017 Maroon Effect T-Shirt at University Bookstores, Hokie Village and Lane Stadium shops. Saturday is looking like a beautiful fall day in Blacksburg with the weather currently forecasting sunny skies all day with highs in the upper 60s. The low is set for low 40s and there is just a 10 percent chance of rain.

 

Q. What time does Hokie Village open and close?
A blast from Skipper will officially open Hokie Village at 4:30 p.m. on the field directly west of Lane Stadium across Beamer Way. Hokie Village closes at 7:15 p.m. Hokie Village will feature food trucks from Papa John’s, Grandpa Ike’s, Saucy Swine-O’s and Centerplate concessions. There will also be giveaways from Zaxby’s, Wendy’s, Pringles, and Coca-Cola. The Marching Virginians Drumline will perform and the Virginia Tech softball team will be out there signing autographs.

 

Q. What weather can we expect for the game?
Saturday should be a beautiful fall day in Blacksburg with temperatures anticipated in the upper 60s; sunny all day with winds light and variable. Sunrise is approximately 7:16 a.m. and sunset at 7:06 p.m. Humidity will be around 55 percent and a 10 percent chance of rain during the day. The day will cool off with temperatures in the low 40s. As always, check for updated forecasts and plan accordingly.

The game is being broadcast on ABC with Chris Fowler serving as the play-by-play announcer, Kirk Herbstreit as the analyst and Maria Taylor on the sideline.

Q. When/where is “The Hokie Walk” taking place?

Team busses arrive at approximately 5:45 p.m. for The Hokie Walk. Head coach Justin Fuente and the team will walk from the outside the West Side of Lane Stadium on Beamer Way to the team locker room in the Merryman Center. Fans are encouraged to cheer on the team upon arrival.

 

Q: Are there any road construction issues that could impact my travel plans?

The work has started on the 460/Southgate Connector project. This will impact travel on game day. Current conditions read on the VDot website as follows: Lane closures and activity in the work zone continue. Motorists should use caution in the area and expect delays and lane closures periodically. The athletic department will continually update fans on conditions throughout the season.

Q: Where can I find info on Blacksburg Transit?

Blacksburg Transit offers service on all buses and shuttles on football game day(s). In addition to regular fixed-route service, Blacksburg Transit runs extra football buses on regular routes to facilitate large crowds. Blacksburg Transit also offers shuttle service from public parking at P2 (map), located at 3109 Prices Fork Road to Lane Stadium.

BT Access provides free ADA shuttle service for passengers with disabilities to and from Lane Stadium. Please call BT Access at 540-961-1803 for more details.

Football Shuttles begin three hours prior to kickoff and run for two hours after each game. Regular fixed-route service is suspended for two hours after each game so that those buses can be used to assist departing fans.

All shuttles will leave from Washington Street, by Cassell Coliseum after the game. BT staff will be available in safety vests to direct passengers.

Q. Do the Hokies have a Clear Bag Policy at Lane Stadium?

Yes, the Hokies instituted a new clear bag policy prior to the 2016 season. The following are approved to be carried into Lane Stadium:

Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x12”

One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)

Small clutch bag approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap and no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”
