Fourth-seeded Virginia Tech advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 52 years by beating 12th-seeded Liberty in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday night.
Kerry Blackshear Jr. scored 19 points for the Hokies, and Darius McGhee scored 15 points for Liberty.
The Hokies got this far just once before, in 1967 when they lost to Dayton, The Associated Press reported.
Ahmed Hill also had 14 points for Virginia Tech and Justin Robinson had 13 points.
The Hokies will now face top-seeded Duke.
