Roanoke College heading to DIII College World Series

The Maroons win the NCAA DIII South Regional tournament to advance

DANVILLE, Va. – Roanoke College met Salisbury in the NCAA Division III South Regional Championship Sunday. 

The Maroons needed one win to advance to the College World Series. Roanoke fell 7-6 in the first game of the day but beat Salisbury in the second game 13-5 to punch its ticket to the World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin.

 "It was our goal all along, lots of hard work put in and it's nice to just pay off," Maroons' Eli Sumpter said.

"Just seeing the expression on those guys faces. I knew we'd have to do it the hard way, we got beat game one in a tough one, but I knew our resiliency and our grit would fight through game two," head baseball coach Matt McGuire said.
