Virginia Tech hockey hosts Wake Forest in teddy bear toss game

The Virginia Tech Hokies hosted Wake Forest Demon Deacons tonight at the Bergland Center for the annual Teddy Bear Toss Game.  The first goal that Virginia Tech scores spectators toss down teddy bears to the ice where the players gather them up and donate them for needy children.

Virginia Tech scores first with 3:47 left in the first period.  Forward David Dacheille sent a screamer past Wake's goalie.  Virginia Tech fans rained down more than 100 teddy bears on to the ice.  The bears were donated to Gleaning for the World.

Hokie Defender Trevor Murphy gets a goal shortly there after  to put Virginia Tech up 2-0.

As the first period horn blew Wake Forest scored their first goal.  At the end of the first period the score was 2-1 Virginia Tech.

Into the second period, Hokies Forward Filipe Rodriguez fakes out the Demon Deacon goalie and scores his first goal of the night with 13:49 left.  Remember his name, he has an amazing night.

Four minutes later, its Rodriguez again scoring his second goal of the night.

With just over a minute left in the second period Hokie Defender Giovanni Angeli gets the biscuit in the basket and scores his first ever collegiate goal.  At the end of the second period the score is 5-1 Virginia Tech.

Two minute into the third period Wake Forest gets their second goal of the night. 5-2 Virginia Tech.

Off a great interception Hokies Filipe Rodriguez scores his third goal of the night for the coveted Hat Trick.

With under 11 minutes left in the game Hokies Forward Luke Slater gets a goal to extend Virginia Tech's lead to 7-2.

Wake Forest would score again before the end of the game but Virginia Tech would hold strong the rest of the way winning a very physical game 7-3.
