Henry County Suspicious Activity

Press Release from the Henry County Sheriff's Office

The Henry County Sheriff's Office received a call on April 18, 2014 regarding suspicious activity.  Three white males driving a white pickup truck were seen in the area of Glen Court in the Ridgeway area of Henry County.  The individuals walked to the back of a residence but a neighbor yelled at them and they left.  Entry into the home was not gained.  On April 19, 2014, three white males were seen on Andra Drive, also in Ridgeway.  A male subject came to the door and asked to come inside.  The resident refused and the subject asked the resident to walk outside and show him where the property line was located.  When the resident got a short distance from the home she heard her door close.  She went back to her home and the door was locked and she saw a male subject inside her home.  The male inside the house ran and got into the truck with the other subject and they fled the scene.  A pocketbook containing cash and other items was stolen in today's incident.

In both instances, the three males were travelling in a white four door pickup truck.  The truck has a yellow rectangular light bar, similar to those found on construction vehicles, on top of the cab and was possibly bearing South Carolina tags.  A hand truck and tools were seen in the bed of the truck.  In both instances, the males stated they worked for the government and were assessing winter storm damage.

Similar situations have been reported in our area as well as others where one individual will divert the attention of the resident away from an open door allowing the others to enter the residence.  The motive for these incidents is theft.  The Sheriff's Office requests residents to be aware of this type of situation and to report any suspicious activity to the Henry County Sheriff's Office at (276) 638-8751 or the Crimestoppers Program at 63-CRIME (632-7463).  The Crimestoppers Program offers rewards up to $1000.00 for information related to crime.  The nature of the crime and the substance of the information determine the amount of reward paid.
