Wytheville plans to revitalize downtown

WYTHEVILLE - The town of Wytheville plans to use more than $700,000 in grant money to revitalize the downtown area.

Town leaders say they want that district to be a community hub where events are held more often.  They also want to get the vacant storefronts filled to make it a viable business area.

The project will include things like facade improvements to the downtown properties, sidewalks, old fashioned street lights and signage. So far, more than 20 businesses have signed on to match the grant money for the facade improvements of their buildings.

Town leaders hope construction will get underway in the next year.
