ROANOKE (WSLS) - Roanoke city leaders unveil their plan Thursday to transform one of the most troubled sections of the city.

This will address neighborhoods in the Loudon, Melrose Avenue and Shenandoah West communities, where the unemployment rate sits at 81 percent.

Leaders say this plan includes things like better sidewalks, senior housing cottages as opposed to high rise buildings and a quality grocery store.

Leaders expect to begin implementing this plan in the fall, and projects should be completed during the next five to ten years.
