Delaney Wearden

Delaney is a Texas native who was born in Houston, but moved to San Antonio where she lived for 16 years. She moved to Roanoke in June 2019.

From a young age, she knew that she wanted to be a meteorologist. The National Weather Center’s location on the University of Oklahoma’s campus made the decision about where to study meteorology an easy decision.

She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in May 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in meteorology and a minor in broadcast meteorology, from one of the best meteorology programs in the nation.

During her tenure at OU, she worked for the school’s newscast, OU Nightly, where she learned how to run cameras, audio and playback.

The summer before her senior year, she was hired to work at KOCO 5 News in Oklahoma City as an operations technician. This allowed her to work behind-the-scenes running cameras, audio and teleprompter. Doing this allowed her to see what work goes on at a news station and she learned how hard the meteorologists work during severe weather days.

She officially started her career as a meteorologist in Amarillo, Texas, where she had hands-on experience with severe weather events.

Her sweet miniature schnauzer, Padfoot, who is named after a character in one of her favorite book series, Harry Potter, joins her on my big adventures!
