Justin McKee presents the weather forecast on 10 News Saturday and Sunday mornings from 6 to 8 a.m. He also fills in for other meteorologists during the week.
Justin joined Your Local Weather Authority in February 2020.
He was drawn to Roanoke by the beauty of the area, along with its forecast challenges. Growing up in central North Carolina, Justin experienced a wide variety of weather from hurricanes and summer heat waves to winter snow and ice storms.
The most memorable event for him was Raleigh’s 20” snowstorm in January 2000! Justin’s interest in weather grew until he decided to pursue it as a career.
Justin received his bachelor’s degree in meteorology from NC State University in 2014. He also completed a minor in environmental science during his time in Raleigh.
Justin received valuable work experience as an intern in the weather department at Time Warner Cable News (now Spectrum News). Justin also worked closely with fellow WSLS 10 meteorologist Chris Michaels, as they were in the same class at NC State!
This is Justin’s third job as a broadcast meteorologist, following stops at WWAY in Wilmington, North Carolina and KTTC in Rochester, Minnesota.
He has experienced a little bit of everything from a forecast perspective, from blizzards and extreme cold in Minnesota to covering multiple hurricanes in coastal North Carolina.
Hurricane Florence was a particularly notable storm that Justin covered, as his station did 83.5 hours of continuous coverage during the lead-up, height and aftermath of the landfalling hurricane.
Justin is excited to explore Roanoke and the rest of Southwest Virginia! If you’d like to contact Justin, you can reach him by email or on social media.
