A divided Wisconsin Supreme Court has agreed to take a case brought by the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of an immigrant rights group.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’ lawsuit against the Republican-controlled Legislature arguing that it is obstructing basic government functions.

Wisconsin Democrats are celebrating the beginning of a new era for the state Supreme Court as it flips from conservative to liberal control for the first time in 15 years.

Skeptical Wisconsin Supreme Court justices are questioning whether state law allows for voters to give their absentee ballot to someone else to return or whether drop boxes can be placed outside municipal clerk offices.

The conservative-leaning court ruled 4-3 that Evers violated state law by unilaterally issuing multiple emergency orders to extend the mandate for months. His stance then gave Democrats hope that he would cast the deciding vote to uphold the mask mandate.

The ruling ends Trump's legal challenges in state court. Still, Wisconsin's Republican electors also met Monday and cast their votes for Trump at the president's request. On Saturday, former Trump campaign attorney Sidney Powell asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear a federal case she lost in Wisconsin seeking to order the GOP-controlled Legislature to declare Trump the winner. Also on Saturday, a federal judge dismissed another Trump lawsuit seeking to overturn his loss in Wisconsin. On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a Texas lawsuit that sought to invalidate Biden’s win by throwing out millions of votes in four battleground states, including Wisconsin.
