ROANOKE, Va. – A family dog died in an early morning house fire in Northwest Roanoke, according to fire officials. They tell 10 News two people were taken to the hospital, one in serious condition. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A two-vehicle crash in Lynchburg on Wednesday left one person dead and another seriously hurt. 28-year-old Paris Carta, of Lynchburg, died from her injuries, according to the Lynchburg Police Department. Another person was taken to Centra Lynchburg General Hospital with “significant” injuries. A passenger in the car was taken to the hospital with “serious” injuries according to police. Police said the driver of the utility truck wasn’t hurt.

A Siberian heat wave began this year’s Arctic sea ice season early and, with Arctic temperatures 14 to 18 degrees above-average, the ice kept melting. The sea ice reached its minimum extent on September 15 at 1.44 million square miles. (WSLS)This mark is the second-lowest on record, behind 2012 when the sea ice shrunk to 1.31 million square miles.
