LYNCHBURG, Va. โ The holidays are usually a lucrative time for Lynchburg small businesses, but the coronavirus pandemic has made the season more important than ever for some of them. โThe dollars stay in our city and they help people we know and care about,โ Griffin said. โTo me, supporting local business is essential.โGriffin and Joyner both encourage others in Lynchburg to seek out small businesses first during the Christmas season. โTheyโre a part of our community, so we get to share in their success by supporting them,โ Griffin said. โSmall businesses have to put food on the table, too, and we all know money is tight,โ Joyner said.
Local bakery to appear on Food Network channel Sunday
LYNCHBURG, Va. - Set your DVR's because a bakery in our area will be on the national stage this Sunday. Mrs. Joy's Absolutely Fabulous Treats, in Lynchburg, will appear on the Food Network. For $25,000 Joyner competed, showing off her skills. She said it's her third time on food network, but it's her first time being a gingerbread artist"I am known for cookie decorating. And cookie decorating and gingerbread is two different things because there's different rules involved with decorating gingerbread as opposed to decorating cookies.

You may think there is only one way to decorate and enjoy chocolate covered pretzel, but Mrs. Joy's Absolutely Fabulous Treats puts a spin on the classic sweet and salty treat. How to Survive a Rip Current
Ali Joy lost her husband, Charles, on Father's Day weekend last year when he ran into the water to save their twin daughters caught in a rip current. Now, Joy is spreading the word about the dangers of rip currents and how to stay safe if you get caught in one. A rip current is a powerful, narrow, fast-moving channel of water that moves from the beach and extends out into the ocean. She's on a campaign called Float Don't Fight, urging people to stay calm and float in the water until the current dissipates. If you fight against the rip, it could tire you out and leave you fighting for your life.
