ROANOKE, Va. – Fire crews stopped a house fire that began after a pickup truck hit both a person and a power pole in Roanoke Tuesday evening, according to the Roanoke Police Department.

The crash happened in the 800 block of Brandon Avenue, which is close to the Towers Shopping Center.

It's not clear yet how badly the pedestrian was hurt.

Police say the house caught fire due to downed power lines. There is no official damage estimate yet.

That busy stretch of road was closed for a time during the evening commute, causing significant backups.
