Virginia State Police Trooper C. Thomas said state police responded to the call around 9:25 Wednesday for a car crash on U.S. 460 just west of the intersection with Turkey Foot Road in Campbell County.

Police said Jason Lutz, 40, was driving westbound in his Jeep Cherokee when he ran off the road, hit a guard rail and then rolled his vehicle. Lutz was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the car. Lutz was the only person in the car.

It's unclear what caused Lutz to run off the road and Thomas said there was no evidence immediately available to suggest what happened. Lutz's family has been notified and his body was taken to the medical examiner's office. Virginia State Police will continue their investigation.
