Man charged with first-degree murder after Christiansburg homicide

CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - Christiansburg police have charged a man with first-degree murder after allegedly killing a 58-year-old woman on Friday.

Police say 25-year-old Cyron Stokes, of Christiansburg, is also charged with malicious wounding. Stokes also faces a charge of malicious wounding.

58-year-old Amy Byrd Shrader, of Narrows, was pronounced dead on Friday morning after an incident at Anderson Audiology on Oak Tree Boulevard.

Another woman was physically assaulted and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released, according to police.

A witness reported seeing someone leave the scene in a 2004 gold Ford Crown Victoria. Christiansburg Police began searching for the suspect and the vehicle.

At 12:13 p.m., an officer passed a vehicle matching the description, and as the officer turned around to follow the vehicle, the vehicle pulled into the parking lot of Amelia's Pizzeria and Restaurant at 1130 Cambria St NE, according to police.

Police say the suspect, Stokes, immediately exited the vehicle and ran away.

At 12:50 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody after being confronted by police in a residential yard on King Street.
