Jefferson Forest launches nation's first Cyber S.W.A.T. Team

FOREST (WSLS 10) - Local high school seniors are teaching younger students to be safe online.

Jefferson Forest High School in Bedford County now has a Cyber S.W.A.T. Team. S.W.A.T. stands for Safety While Accessing Technology.

The school held a kickoff event on Thursday morning, during Cyber Safety Week.

A group of high school students will present age-appropriate internet safety lessons to children in middle and elementary school.

Team member Cayman Morris wants to play lacrosse in college, so he said he's careful about what he puts on social media.

Morris joined the club with two of his friends.

"We feel as if when we speak to them it'll mean more because it's coming from people that they would look up to as high schoolers and people who are graduating soon," said Morris.

The Safe Surfin' Foundation says a second team will soon get started in Los Angeles and there are even plans to take the program nationwide.
