Riner Fire Department to expand

RINER (WSLS 10) - The Riner Fire Department and Rescue Squad will soon have a new home in Montgomery County.

The Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of a 46-acre property off Riner Road.  The goal is to build a new fire department there in the next two years and move the rescue squad into the current fire department building.

The county has been looking to expand the Riner services for several years. The fire department has grown to 38 volunteers.

"We're busting at the seams," said Todd King. "The rescue squad, they're busting at the seams. They've got equipment sitting outside. It's just not a very good scenario."

The new land will cost $375,000 dollars.

The county also plans to build parks and recreation fields and facilities there in the coming years.
