2016's Stop 4: Bath County

BATH COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Stop four on the Virginia Proud Weather Tour took Jeff Haniewich to the Omni Homestead Resort, America's oldest resort, which is celebrating its 250th year.

Part of the celebration includes a different cake every single day in 2016. In case you're wondering, Tuesday's cake was a Vanilla bean lemon raspberry meringue cake.

Don Ryder, the former director of golf at the resort, worked at the resort for 42 years. He explained how crucial the resort is to the community.

"They take a lot of pride in The Homestead. It's meant so much to this county. It keeps the county alive," said Ryder. "The Omni Homestead keeps us all surviving."

Golf is also a huge part of the resort, which boasts three different courses.

JC Snead, a former professional golfer, said golf has been a main attraction for the resort. Snead, finished second at the 1973 Masters.

On Wednesday, Jeff will be in Galax highlighting Barr's Fiddle Shop and exploring the history of Bluegrass music in the area.
