Rain, mountain snow arrive this weekend

Turning windy and colder by sunday

ROANOKE, Va - ā€“ We are still hanging on to the breeze as we close out the work week, but the sunshine also stays with us. That wind gradually relaxes throughout Friday morning as temperatures rebound back to the upper-50s and lower-60s after a very cold start.

Clouds increase throughout the day on Saturday ahead of a cold front that crosses the area later Saturday evening and overnight. Most of Saturday will be cloudy and dry with temperatures hovering around 60. Slight rain chances arrive after dinner Saturday evening with the best rain chancesĀ after 7 or 8 p.m in the New River Valley, and even later than that east of the Blue Ridge in Southside and Central Virginia.

A few showers hang on early Sunday morning, but a drying and clearing trend take over for the rest of the morning and afternoon. The exception to this will be along the western slopes as upslope snow showers get going as colder air rushes in behind the front. A couple of inches of snow will be possible in ski country.

Sunshine stays with the area as we get into the biggest travel week of the year.
