Brutal cold, wind set in Thursday

Wind chills could approach 20 below by Friday

The wind has returned and wind chills are approaching the dangerous threshold Thursday morning. A reinforcing shot of Arctic air will keep high temperatures in the 20s. With wind gusts on the order of 30-40 mph, wind chills will be in the single digits through Saturday. Spotty power outages are possible, especially in the higher elevations where wind gusts could top 40 mph. If that occurs, make sure you are being safe with alternative ways to heat your home.

Wind chills west of the Blue Ridge could approach -20 Friday and Saturday morning.

We’ll warm things back up to around 30 for Sunday with temperatures likely jumping back into the 40s by Monday. Monday will feature a chance for a rain/snow mix before everything turns to rain by the afternoon. We'll flirt the 50s by Wednesday.
