ROANOKE, Va. – After a relatively dry January, at least compared to the last six months of 2018, the wet pattern has once again returned to southwest and Central Virginia.
In Roanoke, January was the first below average month in the precipitation department since last June. February also started off below normal, but that is about to change.

Prior to the rain Tuesday, most areas around the region were below normal from the start of 2019 to date.
After a couple of dry days Wednesday and Thursday, rain and snow chances return with a few different system. Most will pick up rain Friday, but the air will be marginally cold enough for ice and snow to mix in. The best chance to see the ice and snow will be along and north of Roanoke and Lynchburg.
Active weather looks to continue into early next week. The combination of rain, snow and ice could have several cities picking up north of 3" of liquid. Stay tuned.
