Big heat in the Upper Midwest, Plains spills east in the coming days

Places that are typically much cooler than us are under heat alerts today

ROANOKE, Va. – We’re coming off a really comfortable weekend in Southwest and Central Virginia! It was perfect if you were celebrating Father’s Day and/or Juneteenth.

We keep the same kind of comfortable temperatures and humidity in the forecast today. Look for highs in the 70s and low 80s by afternoon.

We’ll also have a mix of sun and clouds and light northwest breezes.

The big heat that we’re going to receive soon is currently in the Upper Midwest and Plains. Cities like Minneapolis, Des Moines and Chicago will rise in the 90s to low 100s for highs today!

The National Weather Service has issued heat alerts for this region today.

The heat they’re contending with today will spill to the east Tuesday and Wednesday as the jet stream lifts north.

Look for highs in the 80s and 90s for the first couple of days of summer.

The humidity will also be on the rise later this week. Dew points are running in the 40s now but will rise to the 60s by Wednesday. Air you can wear!

As the moisture arrives, small rain chances return to the forecast. We currently have them between 20 and 30 percent from Wednesday through the weekend.
