3 Degree money to go to adults with disabilities day support

ROANOKE, Va. – Storm Team 10 is making a difference in the lives of an oftentimes forgotten population.

Every month, 10 News donates money to a local charity for each day our meteorologists accurately forecast the high temperature.

October's total will go to DePaul Community Resources, a nonprofit known for its foster care services.

We learned, however, that the 3 Degree donation will actually benefit DePaul's OPTIONS Day Support.

It's a program that serves 28 people with developmental disabilities, providing these adults with educational and fun activities during the day.

“This is like a home away from home for them. We're meeting an emotional need for some of them. For some of them, it's a mental need. They're getting out of their group homes. They're building relationships with peers here. They're building relationships in the community as we build our community engagement,” said Amanda DesMarais, OPTIONS Day Support coordinator.

DePaul is raising money to break ground on a $200,000 expansion at its headquarters and will move OPTIONS Day Support into the new space, which will include a larger outdoor area.
