Nearing a record in the rainfall department with more on the way

Strong storms possible over holiday weekend

ROANOKE, Va – It is hard to believe we started the year in or close to drought status. Since the end of March, we haven't been able to shut the faucet off.

Roanoke is nearing a record in terms of the rainfall during the month of May. Through the first 24 days of May, the Roanoke Regional Airport has recorded 8 inches of rain. If May ended today, we would end up being the fourth-wettest on record.
