Heather Pelat, Media General - (MEDIA GENERAL) -- Donald Trump has kept a high profile for years before throwing his hat into the 2016 presidential race but there are things you might not know about the billionaire businessman turned GOP presidential nominee. Below are 10 interesting facts about Trump.

1. Trump attended military school

Citing "behavior problems," Trump's parents sent him away to the New York Military Academy at the age of 13. He graduated from the military academy in 1964 before continuing his education at Fordham University and, eventually, the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with a degree in Economics. 2. Trump owned a pro football team

In 1983, Trump, who played varsity football in high school, purchased the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football League. He tried to merge the league with the National Football League but was unsuccessful and the league eventually folded. (Source: The Fiscal Times)

3. Trump is a germaphobe who hates handshakes

Trump is a self-professed germaphobe and dislikes shaking hands or fear of being exposed to germs. He has even referred to hand-shaking as "one of the curses of American society," according to The Washington Post.

4. Trump won an award for acting

He won a Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actor in "Ghosts Can't Do It." Trump played himself in the 1989 film. (Source: BET)

5. Trump's never used an ATM

6. Trump doesn't drink

Trump does not drink alcohol. According to the Houston Chronicle's celebrity buzz blog, his older brother, Fred, was an alcoholic for many years and warned Trump to avoid drinking. Fred ultimately died from his addiction. The GOP nominee has also never smoked cigarettes or done drugs.

7. Trump almost had to shave his head

In 2007, Trump entered into a bet with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Both men chose a pro-wrestling representative and if that representative lost, the respective billionaire had to shave his head. Trump won the bet and helped shave McMahon's head. (Source: LA Times)

Donald Trump challenged President Obama to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The challenge went viral during the summer of 2014, raising $115 million for the ALS Association in its fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
