I-581 South cleared after tractor-trailer fire

ROANOKE, Va. – UPDATE

I-581 South is now open after a tractor-trailer fire shut down the highway on Monday morning.

ORIGINAL STORY

A car fire has shut down all southbound I-581 lanes.

Authorities said three southbound lanes are shut down at Hershberger Road. The call came in as a tractor-trailer on fire at 4:28 a.m.

The driver made it out safely, according to crews on scene.

Crews said the accident will take several hours to clean up and the regional hazmat team is on scene along with Roanoke Fire-EMS.
