On Thursday, Foot Levelers scanned 160 Roanoke City firefighters' feet using 3-D laser scanners in order to make custom orthotics.

Those orthotics will be given to the firefighters free of charge.

They will be used to test new top cover material foot levelers is testing for durability.

Tammy Davis, practice building consultant says,"Some of them are very excited. They have a lot of issues like back pain and knee pain which the orthotics can help with so they are pretty excited about that. We are excited to be able to give to them because they give so much to our community, they put themselves at risk every day, this is a nice way to say thank you to them."

The firefighters will be the first to test out the new top covers.

Custom orthotics cost between $200-$400 each.
