Crash involving Virginia State Trooper under investigation

(WSLS 10) - Virginia State Police say they're investigating a crash that involved a state trooper Sunday evening.
The two-vehicle crash occurred at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 19 at the intersection of Rt. 220 and Rt. 667.

According to state police, Trooper J.E. Philpott was traveling north on Route 220, when a 2005 Cadillac traveling on Route 667 failed to yield to an oncoming trooper's vehicle. The car pulled into the path of Ford Crown Victoria and the trooper was unable to avoid striking it. State police say the two cars collided in the roadway.
The driver of the car, identified as Matthew T. Barnette Sr., 80, of Clifton Forge, Va., was transported to LewisGale Hospital Alleghany for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Barnette was charged with failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
State police say the trooper was transported to LewisGale Hospital Alleghany, for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
