BLACKSBURG, Va. – The regular season ACC Champions Virginia Tech are going dancing. The Hokies are the 4-seed in the Portland 3 regional. They will face 13-seed Marshall, who were the Sun Belt champions.

The Hokies finished the season at #13 in the nation, so it was certain they would make the tournament, but unsure if they would secure a top 16 seed to host. When their name was called, a sense of relief washed over head coach Kenny Brooks.

“Yeah, I was nervous. I was one of those ones who breathed a sigh of relief when we weren’t a five seed,” Brooks said. “It kind of scared me when Kansas State got a four seed. I think we had been looking at Charlie Creme’s thing and I think he had them a five seed. Any advantage you can get, you want to play in front of our home fans in Cassell. I thought our body of work was worthy of a four seed, but when you’re dealing with the NCAA, you never know.”

Vanderbilt and Columbia will have a play-in game in this Regional as well. They play Wednesday at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.

Virginia Tech vs. Marshall is 3:30 p.m. on Friday on ESPN2.

Baylor will play the winner of Vanderbilt/Columbia on Friday at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
