Martinsville City Schools Superintendent retires unexpectedly

MARTINSVILLE (WSLS 10) - Martinsville City Schools Superintendent Pam Heath announced that she plans to take an early retirement on Thursday night; however, that early retirement announcement was just that, an announcement.

The retirement is not immediate and as of Friday, the paperwork still was not completed.

The school board office would not comment on Friday as far as why she decided to take an early retirement. The office deferred to the city's attorney.

He says it was a "mutual decision to seek new leadership for the system," and that the city will conduct a nationwide search for a replacement.

Patrick Henry Elementary School Principal Dr. Zeb Talley has been named as interim superintendent.

WSLS 10 reached out to Talley at both Patrick Henry Elementary and the school board office, but he did not return the calls.
