ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – The Roanoke County School Board is narrowing its options to relocate students from Cave Spring High School.Â
The school board and the school administration have discussed several options for the $37 million renovation and expansion of Cave Spring High School, including where to safely locate students during the project.Â
After two public meetings, school board member Mike Wray says the board is now focusing on the option that will leave Cave Spring High School students at the school and limit the construction to phases. There is still a chance Cave Spring ninth-graders would stay at the middle school.
Wray says a final decision has not been made but the negative reaction to other options, including moving Cave Spring students to Hidden Valley High, was overwhelming.Â
"Hopefully we can make that decision so the planners and everyone else involved can get started on the project and the planning for the school year," said Wray, who represents the Cave Spring district.
Renovations are set to begin in June.
The phase plan is longer and more expensive than some of the other options. It is  estimated to take around 27 months, and the school board says it has not finalized a cost for keeping students at Cave Spring High School.
