LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg Peacemakers are opening a permanent home in downtown Lynchburg to continue their mission of promoting nonviolence and conflict resolution through empowerment, education and community engagement. The organization was previously forced to close after the owner of their building put it up for sale.
“The Lynchburg Peacemakers are opening a permanent home downtown to continue its mission to maintain a harmonious society,” said 10 News community journalist Jalen Stubbs.
New center brings jobs, opportunity
The new location is expected to create more than two dozen positions for community members. Among the plans is a sewing factory that will provide employment opportunities.
“Altogether we have openings for 22 people because we will be opening a factory for people who know how to do sewing,” said Shawn Hunter, president of Peacemakers.
A track record of community impact
Before being forced to close, Peacemakers made a significant mark on the Lynchburg community. The organization helped more than 100 people find jobs and installed more than 300 security cameras throughout the neighborhood — all at no cost to residents.
Community day planned for Saturday
To celebrate their return, Peacemakers is planning a free, family-friendly community day this Saturday in Lynchburg. The event is open to all.
