Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia is marking World Wish Month in April with local events, including Make-A-Wish Night at a Salem RidgeYaks game on Sunday, April 12.
The event will be held at Salem Memorial Ballpark (1008 Texas St., Salem). Gates open at 1 p.m. and first pitch is set for 2:05 p.m. as the Salem RidgeYaks take on the Wilson Warbirds.
Rachael Schrinel, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia, said the organization uses April to highlight the impact a wish can have for children facing critical illness.
“April is that month that we really get to just celebrate all that they are, the heroes that they are,” Schrinel said.
Schrinel said the chapter grants nearly 180 wishes each year, including more than 50 in this region, and relies on community support to help make those wishes possible.
Make-A-Wish Night at the RidgeYaks game will include wish kids and their families, Make-A-Wish alumni, volunteers and supporters. Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia representatives will also be at a concourse table for fans to stop by, learn more and get involved.
A portion of each ticket sold through the Make-A-Wish link will benefit the organization. Tickets are listed at $17.08.
Anyone planning to attend the game can use the ticket link provided here, or via the QR code below.
Those who want to get involved beyond the game can volunteer or donate through Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia’s website at va.wish.org.
