Bedford Boys Baseball Team Honors WWII Heroes Bedford, VA — A new baseball team in Bedford isn’t just playing to win—they’re playing to remember. The Bedford Boys were named in honor of the 19 local soldiers who lost their lives on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Bedford suffered the highest per capita loss of any American town during World War II, and this team is a tribute to that sacrifice. Coach Cliff Stanley, who came up with the name, said, “It’s a tribute to the men who fought for our freedom—to play baseball and enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted.” The team is sponsored by Synagro, a company that works to support the communities it serves. “It’s an honor to support a team that connects our past with the present,” said Coach Remington Guilliams, Synagro’s Senior Operations Manager and a Bedford resident. “The Bedford Boys represent more than baseball—they stand for remembrance, unity, and community pride.” Photo credit ---Annette Fox Photography
