Since I was a 5-year old kid living on Hollins Road in Northeast Roanoke in 1949 when the Mill Mountain Star was first lit, I can still remember crawling up on our sofa and looking out our big window to watch each night until the star was turned off each night at 11PM. It was a magical moment and it still lets me know that I'm proud to be in my hometown - Roanoke, Virginia. The Star City of the south!
