European Union lawmakers have voted to hold up a major free trade agreement with the Mercosur group of South American countries over concerns about the legality of the deal.

The head of the European Parliament’s trade committee said he has doubts about some aspects of the EU’s trade deal with the Trump administration and predicted the deal could be amended during the legislative approval process.
