The Vatican has beatified a Congolese government worker who was killed for resisting corruption, giving young people in a part of the world wracked with violence a new model of holiness.

When a 25-year-old government worker was asked in 2007 to allow spoiled rice from Rwanda to be transported across the border to eastern Congo, he knew the risks of resisting corruption.
