Ryne Sandberg, a Hall of Fame second baseman who became one of baseball’s best all-around players while starring for the Chicago Cubs, has died.

Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said he discussed Pete Rose with President Donald Trump at a meeting two weeks ago and he plans to rule on a request to end the sport’s permanent ban of the career hits leader, who died in September.

Writer Tim Kurkjian and the late Jack Graney, the first former major player to move to the broadcast booth, were honored by the Baseball Hall of Fame for their contributions to the game.
