(KPTV)SALEM, Oregon (KPTV) - The Salem community is supporting a teen boy, who survived a serious crash on I-84 that took his mother's life. James Gilbert Jones is still in the hospital on Saturday recovering from facial fractures, broken ribs and other injuries. Last Sunday morning, the 13-year-old was in a head-on crash on the freeway about 20 miles west of Arlington. To show their support, Jones' teammates with South Salem Saxons football wore T-shirts made in his honor, at their game Saturday afternoon.

CNN imageBEAVERTON, Oregon (KPTV ) - A community united at a Beaverton high school Friday to grieve and find solace following a horrific crash. The crash occurred Thursday afternoon near Molalla and involved two Southridge High School students. Friends, family members and students gathered Friday night to share messages of hope for Tyler Bracken, 18, who was air-lifted to OHSU after the crash with life-threatening injuries. They also honored Eric "EJ" Santos, also 18, who was pronounced dead at the scene after life-saving measures were unsuccessful. The other driver involved in the crash was not hurt.

CNN image(KPTV) - PORTLAND, Oregon -- Its a busy couple days for animal shelters and hospitals, as they care for more sick and stray pets from the Fourth of July. This Fourth of July they cared for 87 animals Thursday alone, compared to their 61 patients on an average day. We checked in with shelters in the area who also had quite a few lost pets. And Multnomah County Animal Services took in 21. As for this weekend, Multnomah County Animal Services will be waiving impound and board fees through Sunday as long as the pet is picked up by Tuesday.
