The Senate sidelined a war powers resolution Wednesday that would have put a check on President Donald Trump’s ability to carry out further military attacks on Venezuela, as the president put intense pressure on his fellow Republicans to vote down the measure.

In a story published Jan. 13, 2026, about a White House request for documents from the Smithsonian Institution, The Associated Press erroneously reported that Vice President JD Vance was placed on the Smithsonian Board of Regents to oversee the removal of “improper ideology” from the institution.
