CNN The Mississippi state legislature -- both the House and Senate -- passed a bill on Sunday to change the state's flag in a historic step toward removing the flag's Confederate battle emblem.
Mississippi state voters would then vote on the new design this November.
Reeves, a Republican, said Saturday that if the legislature passed a bill this weekend to remove Confederate imagery from the state flag, he would sign it.
Both the Mississippi House and Senate passed a resolution on Saturday to begin the process of changing the flag.
And following the votes Saturday, Jefferson Davis' great-great-grandson, Bertram Hayes-Davis, agreed with the potential change of the Mississippi flag, saying that the "battle flag has been hijacked" and "does not represent the entire population of Mississippi."
