Rainy weather arrives just as we say goodbye to summer
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY
The tropical system that works its way along the Atlantic coast brings us wet weather from late Friday into early Sunday. We start with partly cloudy skies on Friday that turn mostly cloudy as the day goes along. After sunset showers begin with wind gusts climbing up to 20 mph or even more in some spots. Temperatures are cooler on Friday thanks to the clouds with most highs in the low-to-mid 70s.
Saturday is the rainiest day as the system moves over us. The clouds hold temperatures in the 60s. Rain is heaviest on our eastern edge with the worst effects in the Chesapeake Bay. Rain totals are mostly under an inch except in parts of Southside where we could see as much as two inches. Wind gusts are still high throughout the day.
Showers linger through the night into Sunday, but by noon on Sunday most of us are dry. Skies turn clear as the day goes along with highs back in the 70s. Winds come down and stay calm as we start the week.
INTO NEXT WEEK
Monday gives us a short dry break; that pause in rain helps water levels get back to where they need to be. Showers come back on Tuesday and into Wednesday. Storms are unlikely since high pressure behind the tropical system makes it hard for the clouds to gain energy. Temperatures are close to 70 thanks to the cloudy skies.
We start to dry out by the end of the week keeping us comfortable for the next fall weekend.
