71-year-old man dead after crash on I-81 in Rockbridge County

The crash happened around 5 p.m. Saturday on I-81, two miles south of Raphine Road, police say

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. – UPDATE - 6:30 p.m. Sunday

Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash that left one dead in Rockbridge County on Saturday.

According to police, the crash occurred at 5 p.m. on Interstate 81 northbound, two miles south of Raphine Road.

We’re told a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe was illegally parked on the right shoulder of the roadway. Police said the driver was outside the vehicle, when a 2018 Kenworth tractor-trailer struck the Tahoe. The Tahoe then struck the pedestrian.

Authorities said the pedestrian, who was also the driver of the Tahoe, was identified as 71-year-old Timothy Korman of Midlothian. Korman died at the scene.

State police said no charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.

This crash has been cleared, according to VDOT.

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened on I-81 southbound at mile marker 202. State police said the crash happened at approximately 5:02 p.m.

Police said an SUV was stopped on the right shoulder of I-81 and was struck by a tractor-trailer. They said one person is confirmed was killed.

Traffic is being detoured off of Exit 200 and all north lanes are closed, according to VDOT.
