LPMS staff worked with Henry County Sheriff's deputies to investigate the report. They later confirmed that a student brought a firearm on campus.
Based on initial findings, the weapon, which was kept in a locker during the school day, was not loaded. School administrators say they believe the student's intention was to show the weapon to friends rather than to threaten anyone. They added that any student whose actions pose a safety concern for the rest of the student body would receive disciplinary action.
The student was taken into the custody of law enforcement officials and faces criminal charges.
The school issued a letter and a School Messenger alert call to families to make them aware of the situation. Administrators also reminded students that if they become aware of a safety concern at school, their first response should be to tell school administration and/or the school resource officer.
