New program could make Danville's wastewater treatment plant more efficient

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Danville Utilities is trying to make the city's wastewater treatment plant more efficient.

Danville Utilities is now a charter member of the Clean Water Partnership. The program sets benchmarks for the plant to try to meet and in doing so, discover ways to make the plant more efficient.

"Many of your larger plants have gone through this process and found it to be very valuable. Now, they're trying to step it on down and get everybody," said Danville Water Director Barry Dunkley.

Dunkley said Severn Trent, the company that manages the city's wastewater treatment plant, actually came up with the idea to join the partnership.

"First, we'll analyze the data that we already have and we have over a thousand sample points each month," explained Jerry Schupe, Severn Trent's project manager at the wastewater treatment plant.

If the program proves successful at the wastewater treatment plant, the city may decide t implement it at the drinking water plant.
